Surface Perception: Escaping the Instinct Reaction Trap
You see what you want to see, not reality itself. Senses are filters; illusions are default settings. Ten perception biases, four循环 traps, four steps to escape instinct reactions ?awakening begins from the chaos layer.
First Layer of Cognition: Chaos Layer
You see what you want to see, not reality itself.
First-layer cognition characteristics: Completely driven by instinct and intuition. Whatever stimulus the environment provides, you react to. Emotions arise ?erupt; desires arise ?pursue; fear arises →逃避. All behavior is被动 response to external stimuli.
This isn’t “living” ?this is “being lived.”
Why Everything Your Eyes See Is Illusion
Your perception system evolved not for “seeing truth” but for “helping survival.”
- You倾向 see threats: In ancient environments, people who忽略 threats were more likely to die; this instinct continues today. Your sensitivity to negative information far exceeds positive information
- You倾向 see familiar things: The brain forcefully fits new information into old frameworks. For things inconsistent with existing cognition, you’re more likely to怀?the event itself rather than修正 your认知 framework
- You倾向 see immediate things: Delayed gratification is反本? you’re more easily attracted by即时 stimulation而忽?long-term consequences
- You倾向 see socially-defined things: Right/wrong, success/failure ?these standards weren’t established by you, they were灌输 by society
Illusion isn’t欺骗 ?it’s the default setting of your perception system. Recognizing “what I see might be false” is the first step of认知升级.
Ten Sources of Perception Bias
- Confirmation bias: Only seeing what you want to see; any information becomes “evidence supporting原有观点”
- Availability bias: Overestimating the probability of events that are easily recalled
- Overconfidence bias: Excessive confidence in judgments, abilities, and information accuracy
- Hindsight bias: After events occur, “I knew it would happen,” but pre-event预测 ability was roughly equivalent to掷骰?5. Loss aversion bias: The pain of losing 100 exceeds the pleasure of gaining 100; hesitating when应行?执着 when应止?6. **Groupthink bias:**倾向放弃 independent judgment for接纳, even silently选择 when内心知道 the truth
- Anchoring bias: Judgment被锚?by the first number received
- Attribution bias: Success归自? failure归环? forever feeling more capable than实际
- Present bias: “Enjoy today,努力 tomorrow” ?systematic剥削 of your future self
- Narrative bias: Fabricating因果 stories for events to make混乱 world appear有序, but correlation ?causation
##循环 Traps of Surface-Level Life
- Effort-frustration-more effort-more frustration: Wrong direction; more effort just means going further on the wrong path
- Complaining-waiting-continuing to complain: Attribution困境 to external factors; waiting only消?your own time and energy
- Pursuing-obtaining-emptiness-pursuing more fiercely: Any external stimulus带来?satisfaction is短暂; brief satisfaction followed by deeper emptiness
- **Building relationships-disappointment-closing relationships-loneliness-rebuilding:**渴望 deep connection但每次伴?disappointment risk; the循环 never stops unless认知升级
The本质 of traps isn’t external environment ?it’s internal认知 structure. Without认知升级, the循环 never stops.
How to Escape Instinct Reactions
Escaping instinct reactions isn’t suppressing instincts ?it’s adding an “observer” to instinct reactions.
- Naming: Identify what emotion this is. Naming itself creates distance ?when you can name an emotion, you’re no longer完全被它淹没
- Observing: Observe what the emotion feels like in the body. Where? Intensity 1-10? Observation creates a second you ?a冷静观察 existence above the emotion
- Questioning: What is this emotion telling me? Is it true? Must I回应 now? Most times emotions尖叫 but don’t mean紧?4. Choosing: After having空间, choose回应 method. Not suppressing emotion ?choosing how to表达 emotion
True freedom isn’t absence of emotion ?it’s being able to choose how to回应 emotion. Escaping instinct isn’t becoming an emotionless machine ?it’s becoming the master of emotions.
