7 Golden Rules for Preventing Card Freezes

Card freezes can be prevented. Remember these 7 rules, and your freeze probability drops from 5% to below 0.1%.

Rule 1: Never Use Direct Bank Transfers

Direct bank transfers to crypto merchants are the #1 cause of card freezes. AML systems automatically monitor all bank transfers.

Alternative: Alipay/WeChat P2P (0.1% freeze probability)

Rule 2: Keep Each Transaction Under 5,000 CNY

Bank AML trigger thresholds are typically around 50,000 CNY. Alipay risk control thresholds are around 5,000 CNY.

Under 5,000 CNY = low-risk zone.

Rule 3: Only Choose Certified Merchants

Certified merchants (blue badge) have their fund sources audited by the platform, with lower chain-freeze probability.

Non-certified merchants’ upstream may be involved in cases — your card can be linked and frozen.

Selection criteria:

  • ✅ Certified merchant
  • ✅ Completion rate 99%+
  • ✅ Transaction volume 100+ orders
  • ✅ Online response <5 minutes

Rule 4: Diversify Across Multiple Channels

70% Alipay + 20% WeChat + 10% C2C.

Frequent single-channel transactions trigger risk control. Multi-channel distribution reduces per-channel transaction frequency.

Rule 5: Keep All Transaction Records

If your card gets frozen, P2P transaction records are your only evidence for appeal.

Save:

  • P2P transaction screenshots
  • Alipay/WeChat payment screenshots
  • Merchant information
  • Chat records

Rule 6: Prepare a Backup Bank Card

If your card is frozen, all cards at that bank get frozen. But if you have a family member’s bank card to temporarily use (salary redirected to their card), you won’t be completely stranded.

Backup options:

  • Salary transferred to spouse/parent’s bank card
  • Use Alipay/WeChat for daily spending (don’t rely on bank cards)
  • Maintain 2-3 cards at different banks (distribute risk)

Rule 7: Don’t Trade More Than 3 Times Per Day

More than 3 P2P transactions per day may be flagged by the payment platform.

Recommended: 1-2 transactions per day, with at least 2 hours between each.

Freeze Probability Calculation

StrategyFreeze Probability
Bank transfer + large amounts + single channel5-10%
Alipay P2P + small amounts + single channel0.3%
Alipay P2P + small amounts + certified merchants0.1%
Alipay + WeChat + C2C + small amounts + certified merchants<0.05%

Follow all 7 golden rules, and freeze probability is below 0.05%. Nearly zero.

What If You Still Get Frozen

Even following all 7 rules, there’s still an extremely small probability of freezing. See our card unfreezing guide for response plans.
