Introduction: Texture Is Not Technique — It Is a Way of Being
Cultural Note: The original Chinese title is 引言:质感不是技术,是存在方式 (Yǐnyán: zhìgǎn bù shì jìshù, shì cúnzài fāngshì). “质感” (zhìgǎn) literally means “the feel/texture of a material” — the way silk feels different from cotton, the way a seasoned trader feels different from a novice.
Have you ever met someone who got liquidated?
Not the news headline kind — “some trader lost a million overnight.” A real person. Maybe your friend, maybe a big-V you follow on forums, maybe yourself.
After being liquidated, a person speaks differently.
Not more cautious — caution anyone can fake. They become quiet. They stop saying “this will definitely go up.” They stop saying “I have a strategy that always wins.” They stop posting profit screenshots. They start speaking with conditions: if price holds above this level, I’ll go long; if it breaks below this level, I wait.
This way of speaking — this conditional, disciplined, honest way — is texture.
爆仓之后的人,说话不一样了。不是变得更谨慎——谨慎谁都会装。是变得安静了。 “After being liquidated, a person speaks differently. Not more cautious — caution anyone can fake. They become quiet.”
An Experiment
Find two traders and ask them the same question: “Will BTC go up or down tomorrow?”
Trader A: “Definitely up. I see several bullish signals, the technicals show a golden cross, whales are accumulating. Target $100K.”
Trader B: “I don’t know. But if it holds above 82,000, I’ll enter long at 81,500 with a stop at 80,000, targeting 86,000. If it breaks below 79,000, I wait.”
Which one sounds more reliable?
A sounds confident, like an analyst. B sounds hesitant, like a coward.
But if you had to entrust your money to one of them, you’d choose B.
Because A is predicting the future. B is responding to the future. Predictions can be right or wrong, but responses are always effective — no matter what the market does, B knows what to do.
Texture is this ability: no matter what happens, you know what to do.
质感就是这种能力:不管发生什么,你都知道该做什么。
Six Levels of Texture
I break a trader’s texture into six levels:
Level Zero: Survive. Liquidation is the rite of passage. Stop-loss is faith, not strategy. Leverage is a tool, not a bet. If you can’t survive, nothing else matters.
Level One: Discipline. Rules > emotions. Five questions before every position. A trading journal is your external memory.
Level Two: Cognition. You profit from others’ mistakes. Direction right or wrong doesn’t matter — what matters is knowing what to do in every scenario. The hardest four words to say are “I don’t know.”
Level Three: Rhythm. The market has breath — follow it. Not acting is also a decision. All market movements are folded — unfolded, only one action is worth taking.
Level Four: Pain. Losing money isn’t painful — violating discipline is. Winning is more dangerous than losing. Revenge trading is the #1 account killer.
Level Five: Simplicity. Masters’ systems are extremely simple. Delete until only the essential remains. How long you can wait determines how much you can earn.
Six levels, from survival to elegance.
质感的本质,是这六层的共振。 “The essence of texture is the resonance of all six levels.”
