Direction Right or Wrong Does Not Matter
Cultural Note: The original Chinese title is 方向对不对不重要 (Fāngxiàng duì bù duì bù zhòngyào). The provocative claim: what you can control isn’t direction, but position, stop-loss, and execution.
“Direction right or wrong doesn’t matter.”
This makes many traders uncomfortable. “If direction is right, you earn! How can it not matter?”
Direction being right can earn money. But direction is not something you can control. What you can control: position size, stop-loss, execution.
So direction doesn’t matter — what matters is: regardless of direction, you know what to do.
重要的是不管方向对不对,你都知道该做什么。 “What matters is: no matter whether direction is right or wrong, you know what to do.”
Four Levels of Cognition
Level 1: Analyze direction. “BTC will hit 100K.” All energy on prediction. Problem: even correct direction can lose money if position/stop/execution is wrong.
Level 2: Position management matters more. “I can control how much I lose per trade.” Understands direction is probability, position is control.
Level 3: I don’t know direction, but I know what to do in each scenario. “If BTC holds above 80K, I go long with stop at 78K. If breaks 75K, I wait. If 75-80K range, I don’t trade.” Conditional branching for all possibilities.
Level 4: I don’t need direction. “I only need signal, rules, and discipline.” Completely脱离 the prediction framework. A reaction system, not a prediction system.
从预测到应对的转变,是交易认知最大的飞跃。 “The shift from prediction to response is the biggest leap in trading cognition.”
Direction Judgment = Hammer
Use a hammer to drive nails. If the hammer doesn’t work, switch tools. You don’t fall in love with a hammer.
But many traders develop emotional attachment to their direction判断. Right = genius. Wrong = market problem.
Direction judgment = hammer. Good hammer = use it. Bad hammer = switch. Don’t fall in love with hammers.
方向判断 = 锤子。好锤子用,坏锤子换。不跟锤子谈恋爱。 “Direction judgment = hammer. Use a good one, replace a bad one. Don’t date your hammer.”
Texture Check:
- Last trade: was your direction判断 prediction-style or response-style?
- If your judgment was falsified, could you admit it immediately?
- Have you been frustrated by “right direction but no profit”? Where’s the real problem?
