Winning Is More Dangerous Than Losing
Cultural Note: The original Chinese title is 赚钱比亏钱更危险 (Zhuàn qián bǐ kuī qián gèng wēixiǎn). The counter-intuitive insight: losses teach you limits; wins teach you nothing — or worse, they teach you the wrong lesson.
When you lose, you know you’re wrong. You know you need to change. Pain drives you.
When you win, you think you’re right. You think no change needed. Pleasure blinds you.
Winning is a trader’s most dangerous moment.
赚钱是交易员最危险的时刻。 “Winning is a trader’s most dangerous moment.”
The Winning Trap
You win 5 consecutive trades. Account up 12% in a few days. Your brain starts whispering:
“I can increase position size.” “My win rate is so high, I can loosen stops.” “This system is too conservative.” “Am I naturally gifted at trading?”
These thoughts don’t appear when losing — they appear when winning.
This is the winning trap: it makes you膨胀 (inflate). Inflation manifests as: larger positions, wider stops, increased frequency, unplanned trades.
Then you make an unplanned trade with oversized position. Market pulls back. You lose 5%. But your心态 is different now — you just earned 12%, you feel you should earn more. 5% loss makes you不甘心. So you increase again. Another 8% loss. You’ve now lost most of that 12%. Anxiety, anger, revenge trading.
From a good beginning to a bad ending.
Why Winning Is More Dangerous
Losses have a brake: pain makes you stop, reflect, rest.
Wins have no brake. Winning accelerates you. The more you win, the more you want, the bigger the positions, the higher the risk — until one pullback resets everything.
让你赚钱的那个特质,也是让你亏钱的那个特质。 “The trait that makes you earn is also the trait that makes you lose.”
The only protection: regardless of how much you’ve earned, rules don’t change.
After 10 consecutive wins, position is still 2%. Stop-loss is still set before opening. Frequency is still max 2/day.
没有任何一笔盈利值得你打破规则。因为规则保护的不是你的利润,是你的命。 “No profit is worth breaking rules. Rules don’t protect your profit — they protect your life.”
The Most Dangerous Moment: After Consecutive Wins
Statistical fact: most liquidations happen after consecutive wins.
Three mechanisms: overconfidence, risk shift (loss perception下降), expectation elevation (3%/day unsustainable → reality回归 causes “loss” feeling).
After Winning: The Correct Response
- Withdraw部分 profit — transfer部分 earnings out of trading account
- Keep position unchanged — don’t increase
- Execute rules more strictly — winning isn’t a reason to relax
- Wait for next signal — don’t trade more because “I’m in good form”
没人因为提取利润而破产。 “No one goes bankrupt from withdrawing profits.”
Texture Check:
- Last time you had consecutive wins — what did you do afterward?
- Have you increased position size after winning? Results?
- When did you last withdraw profits from your trading account?
