Account Security

Password

• Unique — Never use same password anywhere else
• 12+ characters — Long password com mix de types
• No personal info — Don’t use name, birthday, CPF
• Password manager — Use Bitwarden (free) ou 1Password
• Change regularly — Update every 3-6 months

2FA (Two-Factor Authentication)

MANDATORY — Without 2FA, account can be hacked em minutes:

1. Install Google Authenticator — On phone
2. Enable on Gate.io — Settings → Security → 2FA
3. Save backup key — Write down on paper (not digital!)
4. Every login needs 2FA — 6-digit code from app
5. Every withdrawal needs 2FA — Prevents unauthorized withdrawals

Never disable 2FA, even temporarily.

Anti-Phishing Code

1. Set in Gate.io — Settings → Security → Anti-phishing
2. Custom word — Ex: “GATE2024BR”
3. Every legitimate email shows this — If missing, it’s fake
4. Never trust email without code — Forward to Gate.io support

Withdrawal Whitelist

1. Add your addresses — Only addresses you control
2. Enable whitelist mode — Block any non-whitelisted withdrawal
3. 24h delay — New whitelist address needs 24h before use (safety buffer)

Login IP Whitelist

• Settings → Security → IP whitelist
• Add your common IPs — Home, office
• Block unknown IPs — Can’t login from new locations

Wallet Security

Hot Wallets (MetaMask, Trust Wallet)

• Connected to internet — Always at risk
• Keep small amounts only — < R$ 5.000
• Never share seed phrase — Not even with “support”
• Verify transactions — Check destination address before confirming
• Update regularly — Keep wallet app updated

Cold Wallets (Ledger, Trezor)

• Offline storage — Most secure
• Cost: R$ 500-800 — Worth it for > R$ 5.000 holdings
• Setup:
  1. Buy from official store only (never Amazon resellers!)
  2. Initialize device
  3. Write seed phrase on paper
  4. Store paper in safe place (not digital!)
  5. Verify receiving address on device screen

Seed Phrase Protection

Your seed phrase (12-24 words) is the master key to ALL your crypto:

• Write on paper — Never digital (phone, computer, cloud)
• Multiple copies — Store in different secure locations
• Never share — Not with support, friends, anyone
• Never photograph — Screens can be captured
• Metal backup — Consider etching on metal (fire-proof)

If someone gets your seed phrase → ALL your crypto is gone forever.

PIX Security

PIX Deposit Safety

• Same name always — PIX name matches KYC name
• Official Gate.io only — Never send PIX to “seller” outside platform
• Screenshot proof — Save payment confirmation
• Verify recipient — Check PIX key matches Gate.io displayed

PIX Withdrawal Safety

• Your own account only — Withdraw to YOUR bank account
• Same name — Bank account name = KYC name
• Break large amounts — Split >R$ 50.000 into smaller transactions

PIX Freeze Prevention

• Traceable transactions — Use Gate.io directly, not shady P2P
• Avoid mixing — Don’t receive crypto from flagged sources
• KYC complete — Full verification = compliance trail

Common Scams

Phishing

• Fake emails — Look like Gate.io but URL is different
